报告人简介:

Neil Donahue is the Lord University Professor of Chemistry in the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. Neil Donahue is Editor in Chief of the Royal Society of Chemistry Journal Environmental Science: Atmospheres and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and American Association for Aerosol Research. He is a Chemical Physicist with a PhD in Meteorology from MIT, where he worked with Ron Prinn. Before joining the faculty of Carnegie Mellon in 2000, he spent a decade studying kinetics with experimental and theoretical methods in the lab of Jim Anderson at Harvard, where he developed and tested a theory of radical-molecule barrier height control. At Carnegie Mellon, he became interested in the chemistry leading to secondary organic aerosol and consequently the evolution of volatility during organic oxidation. Again combining experiments and theory, this led him to develop the Volatility Basis Set. Most recently, he has been interested in the role of organics in atmospheric new-particle formation, largely as part of the CLOUD collaboration at CERN, extending the VBS from equilibrium thermodynamics to aerosol microphysics and finally to nucleation itself.
