Dr. Gjalt Huppes is a senior researcher at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University, and former head of its Industrial Ecology section. His research focuses on life cycle assessment (LCA), substance flow analysis (SFA), and environmentally extended input–output analysis (EE-IOA), with a strong emphasis on linking quantitative environmental assessment to policy design, resource governance, and eco-innovation. As one of the leading scholars in the field of industrial ecology, Dr. Huppes has made significant contributions to advancing methodological integration between environmental modeling and institutional economics. His work has been widely cited internationally, shaping approaches to sustainability assessment, electricity market redesign, and cost- and material-efficient transitions toward a low-carbon economy.
